Pre-Alpha 1.2.0 - Browser Play + Stage 2 Improvement

Summary:

Can now play in browser without needing to download anything (quality may differ to downloaded), and an improvement to the Clay Caverns / the second stage.

New Features

General / Quality of Life

  • Added the ability to play in-browser. Not as stable as the downloaded versions.
  • Gave the “Clay Caverns” a minor art pass.
    • Recoloured the tiles, and added a few decorations
    • Made the spikes unique from what is in Marble Meadow
    • Increased ambient lighting, making it easier to see things further away
  • Improved “Clay Caverns” gameplay
    • New enemy (see below)
    • Higher level variety (+2 new levels)
    • More spikes
  • Added a couple more decorations to the main menu.
  • The game now remembers your display mode.
  • Stylized the health bar of bosses to match other GUI elements, rather than engine default.
  • Added a small credits screen
  • The seed of a run is now visible on both game over screens in the bottom left.

Enemies

  • Snail Change
    • Takes increased knockback (previously was default)
    • Lowered maximum health, 140 -> 115 (5 hits to kill -> 4 hits to kill without upgrades)
  • New Area 2 Enemy: Clay Cannon
    • Moves left and right similar to the snail, but if the player is in front of it, it will pause to fire.

Items

  • Nerf to the Overly Bloody Knife
    • Can only trigger once per ‘propagation.’ The Fractalizer still allows it to heal multiple times though.
    • Reduced HP stacking to +2.5 per stack (was +3)
  • Adjusted item descriptions
    • Auto Belay, Air padded Boots affected

Bug Fixes

  • Fixed the Sentient Geode’s spawning animation cancelling too early
  • Fixed the Sentient Geode’s passive rotation not being consistent
  • Fixed the Sentient Geode not doing contact damage, a result of the tech debt reduction last patch.
  • Fixed the Slime Bosses not spawning slimes, another result of the tech debt reduction.
  • Fixed some edge cases that created weird interactions with the Auto Belay
  • The snail no longer changes direction upon being hit. Originally intentional, it felt too jank
  • The seed ‘0’ is now a valid option and will result in consistent generation rather than random.
  • Fixed enemies taking knockback while undergoing their death animation.
